smoooooooth
I have been so _good_ this summer in terms of food. Little to no junk food, and hey, those Slim-Fast things? You'd be surprised at how you don't feel hungry despite the lack of anything solid in your tummy. One of those mid-morning, supper at night, fruit or carrots for snacks, and I'm good to go. I'm going to keep going with that when I get back to college, because it's cheaper than real food and better for me than a steady diet of variations on Hamburger Helper (which is good for one once in a while, but not as a steady diet!) A jumbo-size canister of Slim-Fast is about twenty-five dollars, and there's enough there for two months or so. The expense is the milk to mix it with, and that'll run me *does some math... a litre a day, say 3.20 for a two-litre carton why the hell can I not get 4L bags in NL? makes forty-eight a month... so that's sixty a month, plus bread and sandwich stuff. Cucumbers and carrots on top of that, and apples.

I could actually save money, I think. I've got a good stash of green tea and jasmine tea to drink, and if I cut the cheese down that'll save me a bunch too.

The whole purpose of this is to justify picking up some Double-Stuf Oreos to eat while I read tomorrow. Or possibly a party-size thing of Timbits. Gotta last me the whole book, doncha know, and I reckon about three-and-a-half-four hours or so of reading. It's only six-hundred-and-some-pages, and JKR tends to write a quick read (by which I mean it's not heavy going, not that it's short), so that's doable.

Hm, I bet that would be a good thing for me to eat once I start school again and don't have money for nice things. But it's awfully sweet, and kind of scares me.

I don't know about the others, but the chocolate one _is_ sweet, true.

Fortunately I have a sweet tooth like you would not believe, so I'm okay.

I've tried the vanilla once or twice, but that was a while ago, so it would have been when I ate more sugar. Funny that they would make a diet drink so sweet, when that would be an easy way to cut back on calories. Unless it's all fake sugar. And I suppose it would be.

I'm not sure it's a 'diet' drink; I think it's just a 'meal-replacement' shake which makes it easy to do portion control and cut down on fat. It's supposed to have calories, or all its customers would die ;)

I don't think they use real sugar, either. :p

Ahh, I guess that'd be why it leaves you feeling full then. I never knew it was just a 'meal replacement'. Interesting.

Fake sugar is sort of scary. And I think most of them give me headaches. But most real sugar does too. Hahahaa!

Here is the blurb on my canister, emphasis theirs:

An important key to successful and healthy weight management is learning how sensible, portion controlled meals can help you achieve your goals. Slim-Fast helps you to control the calories you eat, allowing you to enjoyably and easily fit the Slim-Fast plan into your own unique lifestyle.

33g of powder with 250 mL of 2% milk (I drink 1%) has 260 calories and 6.9 g of fat (of which 3.6 are saturated, but 3.1 of them come from the milk, so cut that in half for my one percent milk).

And wow... 32 g of sugars AND 43 mg of aspartame. No wonder it's sweet.

Also a source of protein, sodium, potassium, and a whole load of vitamins and trace minerals.

Damn. That is a lot of sugar. Hm, I wonder if my cheap-meal-purposes would be better served by getting some of that protein powder stuff and putting it in oatmeal or something. But I guess all that sugar would be useful in making people not want to eat loads of sugar from other sources. Maybe?

I think it's in to provide calories :p But yes, a lot of sugar. I brush my teeth after I drink it.

Hm, this is beginning to sound less and less like a healthy meal alternative... ; )

Last week I had to buy a belt.

And I have enough energy and stuff.

This is a good combination.

Even if I _am_ allergic to the damn belt buckle.

Huh. That is good news! I suppose in the end it is calories consumed, not what the calories are from, that makes you lose weight. Is your belt buckle made of Kryptonite?

It took me three and a half hours to read it.

The Slim Fast stuff is ok ... but don't eat it 'round the clock.

Portion control is key. I did Weight Watcher's and lost 30 lbs on that diet (and now that I've started to gain weight again, I'm not quite ready to go back to WW, but I am trying to eat better and control my portions.)

As far as diet foods: I really like Luna Bars. I don't know if you guys get those up there, and they can be a bit pricey. But they are pretty good meal replacement bars.
